Amager Centret
This Amager icon is one of the best-run local shopping centres in Copenhagen
Just a stone’s throw from Amagerbrogade and Amagerbro Metro Station is Amager’s cosiest meeting place, Amager Centret. This is one of the best-run local shopping centres in Copenhagen. It sits in a popular neighbourhood that has seen an almost explosive population growth in recent years.
After a thorough modernisation and expansion from 2018–2020, Amager Centret is now a contemporary urban centre that has clear architectural references to its history. The building was originally a rope-making factory built in 1812. Amager Centret has many fantastic shops run by dedicated employees.

Awards rain on Amager Centret
At the annual NCSC (Nordic Council of Shopping Centers) Awards, Amager Centret won awards for Shopping Centre of the Year 2023 in Denmark and Best Marketing Campaign of the Year in both Denmark and the Nordic region.
Amager Centret was among five projects shortlisted from 182 nominees for the Renover Prize, which is awarded annually by Grundejernes Investeringsfond and Realdania to honour Denmark’s best refurbishment projects.
Unique courtyard as a meeting place on Amager
During the renovation, the old stockyard was transformed into a cosy courtyard with green plants and outdoor seating for the eateries that border it. The idea was to transform the courtyard into a Roman-style square where people can meet, socialise, eat and experience.
Since the summer of 2023, Amager Centret has welcomed local people into the courtyard for a series of concerts featuring popular Danish artists such as Fallulah, Thomas Buttenschøn and Wafande, as well as musical bingo, beer yoga and communal dining.
The island is growing
On the one hand, Amager is part of vibrant Copenhagen and on the other hand, the island has a character all of its own. Being an islander on Amager is now more attractive than ever before.
New buildings, refurbishments and other major investments in beaches and natural areas also make an impact on Amager Centret, which is conveniently located in the heart of everything.
